Halton Hills has been a popular filming location for various movies, TV shows and more throughout its history. Canadian productions have been the most common, but occasionally, Hollywood has also made its way into the community to film different projects. Halton Hills' picturesque landscapes and proximity to Toronto, as well as less expensive production costs, have been key factors in so many movies, TV shows and more being filmed here.
1979: 82 Main Street in Georgetown was converted into the State Bank of Madison for the filming of Hot Money starring Orson Wells, Michael Murphy, Michelle Finney, Henry Ramer and Ken Pogue.
October 1981: An episode of Read All About It! a Canadian educational TV show, was filmed in Norval.
September 1982: The Terry Fox Movie was filmed in various locations around Halton Hills, including at 51 Edith Street. Many locals were needed as extras. Teenagers were specifically required to act as Terry's greeters when he arrives in town on his Marathon of Hope.
August 1984: Big Bird was seen filming his movie, Follow that Bird, on Main Street in Georgetown.
May 1985: A building on Main Street in Georgetown was turned into Mulligan's Market for the filming of Oakmount High.
July 1985: Many local teens showed up to be extras for the filming of Young Again, which took place in Georgetown. Keanu Reeves and Peter Spence wore Georgetown High School jackets while they filmed the movie outside of Monty Hyde's law office.
July 19, 1989: Actor Michael Beck stood in front of 70 Mill Street while filming the movie, The Reckoning, which was released under the title, the Final Judgement.
October 1995: The Copper Kettle Pub in Glen Williams was turned into Pork Belly's General Store for the filming of the movie Legend of Gator Face.
November 1996: The McGibbon Hotel in Georgetown was transformed for the filming of Dinner at Fred's.
December 1997: The grounds at Nashville North in Norval were temporarily transformed into a movie studio as shooting for action movie Universal Soldier 2: Brothers in Arms began.
October 2000: The Copper Kettle Pub in Glen Williams has been a popular site for movie productions over the years. In 2000, it was transformed into a 1957 Louisiana general store for the Showtime movie, My Louisiana Sky.
June 2001: Red Green filmed his movie, Duct Tape Forever near Halton Hills, in Rockwood.
February 2002: Al Pacino was in Halton Hills for the filming of his movie, The Farm.
November 2002: Not only movies and TV shows, but also music videos have also been filmed in Halton Hills. Country music singer Kathleen Edwards filmed the music video for her song, "6 O'clock News" in Georgetown.
October 2003: Test shoots take place in Halton Hills for future movies and TV shows.
February 2005: Downtown Georgetown temporarily became the fictional town of New Burbage during the shooting of Slings and Arrows, a series on the Movie Network.
June 2005: The popular movie series, Cheaper by the Dozen, filmed its sequel on the beach at Rockwood Conservation Area, close to Halton Hills. The movie starred Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, Eugene Levy, Hilary Duff and Carmen Electra.
October 2005: The horror movie Skinwalkers, which centered on two warring werewolf packs, was filmed on Highway 7 just outside of Acton, in Rockwood.
October 2006: Sometimes locals are treated to strange sights when filming takes place. When Queen of the Zombie Punks was filmed in 2006, zombies were seen wandering around local cornfields.
September 2009: The Jonas Brothers, including Nick, caused quite a stir while they were filming hit Disney movie Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam near Halton Hills, at Rockwood Conservation Area.
2013: CraveTV's Orphan Black filmed in locations around Toronto, including at Scotsdale Farm, just outside of Georgetown. The New Older Prolethean Ranch is filmed on the farm.
April 2015: You may recognize nearby Rockwood Conservation Area in the historical drama series, Reign. The conservation area was used as the backdrop for horse riding and dialogue scenes for the TV show.
September and December 2015: You Gotta Eat Here!, a Food Network TV show hosted by John Catucci, featured Hungry Hollow Smokehouse & Grill and Mess Hall Poutinerie in 2015.
February 2019: The Limehouse Bridge and Union Church on 22 Side Road were two of the several Halton Hills locations used for Netflix's holiday movie, Let it Snow.
2021: Netflix filmed scenes for their drama series, Painkiller, in various locations around the GTA. RJs Muffler Shop in Georgetown was used as one of the film sets. The series released on Netflix in 2023.
2021: Amazon Prime's Reacher featured Georgetown's Salvation Army on Mill Street as a filming location.
2022: SEE, Apple TV's hit show, was filmed in British Columbia and Ontario, including at Acton's Quarry.
